Preparing For Your Newborn

No matter how many tiny outfits, diapers, and gadgets you’ve heard you “must” have, it can sometimes feel like you’ll never be fully prepared for your baby to come home. A lot of families picture holding their precious baby, rocking in a chair, and reading books to their little ones and then panic at the thought of changing a diaper. If you’ve never changed a diaper, that can be a daunting task. You don’t have to be a baby expert to imagine what a poorly latched diaper can turn into. Seriously, how do the tiny humans create such terrifying diapers sometimes?

Anyway, less on the scary diapers more on getting prepared. As a postpartum doula, I work days and nights helping families as they work through the joys and challenges of life with their new baby. It’s what I love to do and I’m so passionate about the opportunities I have to be with people one on one. That being said, I wanted to offer a class on how to care for newborns in order to give more families access to feeling supported and prepared to bring home their baby.

This is a great class to take during pregnancy when these conversations are the most “real” but before your baby is here and things are a little too real. We’ll go over everything, starting with parenting philosophies like attachment parenting vs scheduled parenting. How the birth will shape postpartum recovery and how to prepare for every option. Choices for feeding your baby, baby health and wellness, newborn safety, newborn care including bathing and swaddling, and recognizing newborn cues.

The goal is for you to leave this class feeling confident and prepared to bring home your baby. This is a transformative time in your life but you don’t have to go in blind! You deserve the space to ask questions without feeling judgment alongside the most up to date, evidence based, information available. Online group classes as well as private, in home classes are available now with Whole Heart Doulas
